A $400 million jet from Qatar's royal family, with no final word on who keeps it
The U.S. accepted the 747 as a new Air Force One. Trump said it would go to his library after his term; the White House now says no decision has been made.
In May 2025 the U.S. government accepted a Boeing 747-8 from Qatar's royal family, valued at about $400 million, to be refitted as Air Force One. It is the most valuable gift from a foreign government to a U.S. president on record. The Air Force estimated the cost of making it secure at under $400 million more, paid by taxpayers.
Trump said the plane would go directly to his presidential library when he leaves office. In August 2026 Eric Trump suggested an older, retired Air Force One would go to the library instead, and a White House official said no final decision had been made. Lawmakers from both parties and ethics experts raised concerns under the Constitution's ban on accepting gifts from foreign states without congressional consent.
